Ibu Tien Soeharto after visiting the Pavilion Irian Jaya in Indonesia Exhibition Production I in 1985, he immediately menggagaskan of a place that showed the craft and art of Asmat. Asmat Museum was built in the area of Taman Bunga Keong Emas.

The shape of the building based on the original architecture Kariwari, Tobati Enggros tribes who inhabited the island in the Gulf of Jayawijaya. This building three composite cone, which is used to accommodate the work of art valuable and unique. In this Kariwari building also provided a touch of Asmat example by adding a traditional ornaments on the outside of Asmat Kariwari building.

Show objects displayed in this museum are objects that contain the Asmat culture values can reveal the strength and outlook on life. All are represented in the carvings are amazing. Value of the objects exhibited very high for the deepening of the traditional public anthropology and heritage cultural values highly significant early modern life.

Of the objects show interesting statue is called Dead or Mbis. The statue tells the story of heroism and expression of the presence of the ancestors. In addition there is a boat called ghost Wuramon believed to be the vehicle used by the spirit to be able to wander. Each other exhibited objects is also equipped with information and its use.
